Showcasing Art by Janet Tosti Baker

I am Italian American and grew up in the Yorktown area of Virginia I spent much time on the water and the natural areas around my home. I enjoyed art from a young age and found myself  drawing these things often. I eventually went to VCU and received my bachelors degree in Painting and Printmaking. Although most of my work consists of paintings I enjoy the process of printmaking.

I enjoy using acrylics or oil paint most. I paint mainly on canvas but also on other surfaces such as wood and slate. I sometimes like to incorporate other media such as metal leaf or mica for example as well into my work.

I enjoy spending time with my family, going to the beach and mountains.  Many of my pieces are influenced by the sunrises and sunsets in my ventures. Dramatic skies are the biggest inspiration for me. Italy is also a great inspiration for me with it’s diverse land and rich art heritage.
